MelloDaily block puzzle

Fair play by design

About Mello: a puzzle that plays fair

Mello is an independently developed free block puzzle for the web (and companion apps). It is designed to feel satisfying without timers, paid luck, or score-based piece changes. Advertising never changes the board, pieces, scoring, difficulty, or outcome.

What you can play today

Mello is an 8×8 block puzzle with a three-piece tray. Fill a complete row or column to clear it. Build combos by clearing on consecutive moves. Daily gives every player the same deterministic 30-piece sequence for each UTC date. Endless continues from a seeded bag until no legal move remains. Both modes work without an account, and both can keep working offline after the game has loaded once.

If you are new, start with the how to play guide or open the full guides library for scoring, strategy, Daily fairness, Endless pacing, and install tips.

One shared Daily

Every player receives the same deterministic 30-piece sequence for each UTC date. The first completed run is official; later runs are clearly marked as practice. Time zones differ, but the day key does not — so comparison stays honest worldwide.

Fair Endless play

Endless uses a seeded piece bag and a deterministic safety check. It may replace a tray it cannot verify as playable, but never because of your score or purchase history. Long runs reward structure and combo discipline, not a secret difficulty slider.

Private by default

Accounts are optional. Firebase handles sign-in and an optional display name. When signed in, your high score, daily streak, and last 30 daily scores sync to your account; board saves and settings stay on each device. Sharing starts only after you choose Share.

Calm monetization

The playable puzzle, About, Support, and Guides pages may show Google AdSense to fund development. After a long ad-free intro, eligible Endless rounds on the website and in the apps may show a short labeled Mello pause between games — never mid-puzzle, never on Daily, and always dismissible. Ads never change pieces, scoring, difficulty, the shared Daily seed, or game outcomes. The native apps currently contain no third-party ad or analytics network.

Scoring you can learn

A full row or column clears. Multiple lines and consecutive clears build a combo, but the game never changes your pieces to manufacture a win or loss. The scoring guide documents the exact point formulas used in the engine.

Accessible and offline-ready

Mello supports touch, mouse, and keyboard play, plus reduced motion, sound, haptic, color-theme, and light or dark appearance settings. Once loaded, the puzzle can keep working without a connection. Signing in, verification, recovery, and account deletion require a connection. See the offline and install guide for device steps.

Who makes Mello

Mello is developed and published by Michael Schillereff as an independent project. The public website lives at mellopuzzle.com. Product writing on this site — including About, Support, and the Guides library — is original documentation for how this specific game works, not scraped or spun content from other puzzle brands.

Self-service help lives on the Support page. Legal details are in the Privacy policy and Terms of use. Fairness design is explained further in the fair play guide.
