Install & offline
Play Mello offline and install it like an app
Mello is a website that can install like an app and keep working without a constant connection. This guide covers install steps, offline limits, and troubleshooting when a device shows an old build.
Install on iPhone or iPad
Open https://mellopuzzle.com in Safari (other browsers on iOS may not offer the same home-screen install). Tap the Share button, then choose Add to Home Screen. Confirm the name and add the icon.
Launch Mello from the home-screen icon once while online so the latest assets can cache. After that, Daily and Endless can continue offline for that installed version until you reconnect for updates.
Install on Android
Open the site in Chrome. Use Install app or Add to Home screen from the browser menu when offered. Accept the install prompt. As on iOS, open the installed app online once after install or after a major update.
Install on desktop
Supported desktop browsers show an install icon in the address bar or an install entry in the browser menu. Installing creates a standalone window without the full browser chrome — handy for focus sessions.
What works offline
After a successful online load, placement, scoring, Daily and Endless play, local saves, and most settings work without a network. The puzzle logic runs on your device.
Sign-in, email verification, password recovery, account deletion confirmation, score sync, and fetching a brand-new deployed version need connectivity. Ads on the website also need a network when they load.
Stuck on an old version
If an installed copy looks outdated, connect to the internet, fully close the app or browser tab, reopen Mello, and reload once. On some devices you may need to remove the home-screen app and re-add it after loading the site in the browser online.
Private browsing and aggressive storage cleaners can wipe local progress. Prefer a normal browser profile when you care about saves. Free enough disk space for site storage.
Progress safety tips
Local storage is fast and private, but it is not a backup service. Clearing site data, uninstalling, or switching browsers can drop device-only boards. Sign in if you want high score and streak summaries recoverable on another device; still treat full board state as local.
Before wiping a phone or browser profile, note your best scores if they matter to you. Support explains how to delete data intentionally when you want a clean slate.
